April Post

April Service Hours: 6

Total Service Hours: 25

We’re finally done with the program! This month, we took our NBME exam, which acted as our final exam and tied in every unit that we’ve covered. After taking the test, I felt really overwhelmed, but it turns out I did a lot better than expected. It really shows how much I’ve learned since August in this program. We also had a lecture on extracellular vesicles, which I found very interesting. I’ve always learned about extracellular vesicles in previous biology classes, but never went too far in depth. I had never really thought about the extracellular vesicles that we consume, like those that plants make, and feel like this may explain some of the beneficial effects of eating fresh fruits and vegetables.

This month, I volunteered at the NOLA Crawfish Festival for 6 hours on Tuesday night and Wednesday; my left arm is a little sore from scooping crawfish, but it was great to volunteer at a community organized event in my own neighborhood of Mid-City. It was hard work, but I got to hear some good music and scavenge for some great crawfish.

Ready to work!

In the heat.
